We are looking for a Texas Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) to join our team and provide skilled nursing care, support surgical procedures, and enhance the overall quality of veterinary services at our hospital.

Position Overview

The Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) plays an essential role in patient care, surgical assistance, diagnostics, and client communication. This position requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence in small animal medicine.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care & Treatment

  • Administer treatments and medications as prescribed by veterinarians.
  • Monitor and assess patient vitals and condition during hospitalization.
  • Assist in patient examinations and maintain accurate medical records.
  • Provide patient care, including IV catheter placement, fluid therapy, wound care, and pain management.

Surgical & Anesthetic Support

  • Perform pre-surgical preparation, including patient induction and anesthesia monitoring.
  • Assist in surgical procedures by maintaining sterile fields and handling instruments.
  • Monitor anesthetized patients and ensure safe recovery post-surgery.
  • Maintain and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment.

Laboratory & Diagnostic Testing

  • Collect and process blood, urine, and fecal samples for in-house and reference lab testing.
  • Perform diagnostic tests such as urinalysis, cytology, and bloodwork.
  • Conduct radiographs and ensure proper patient positioning and safety measures.

Client Education & Communication

  • Educate clients on pet care, post-operative care, and medication instructions.
  • Provide clear and compassionate communication regarding treatment plans.
  • Assist with scheduling follow-up appointments and discussing preventative care options.

Hospital Maintenance & Inventory Management

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam rooms, treatment areas, and surgical suites.
  • Ensure proper storage, handling, and inventory management of medical supplies.
  • Adhere to all safety and infection control protocols.

Qualifications

  • Texas Veterinary Technician License (LVT) is required.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a small animal practice preferred.
  • Strong technical skills, including venipuncture, catheter placement, and anesthesia monitoring.
  • Ability to handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency in veterinary software and medical recordkeeping.
  • Commitment to continued learning and professional development.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Stand for long periods and move quickly as needed.
  • Perform repetitive hand and arm movements, including handling medical instruments.
