We are looking for a Veterinary Assistant to join our team and support our veterinarians and licensed veterinary technicians in providing outstanding patient care.

Position Overview

The Veterinary Assistant plays a key role in ensuring the health and well-being of our patients. This role involves assisting with patient care, supporting doctors and technicians, maintaining hospital cleanliness, and performing various technical and administrative duties.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

• Ensure all patients are housed in a clean, safe, and comfortable environment.
• Monitor patient conditions and report any changes to the veterinarian or technician.
• Administer treatments as directed and record them in medical records.
• Assist with feeding, hydration, and exercise of hospitalized animals.

Outpatient and Inpatient Support

• Review patient charts and update medical records as needed.
• Assist doctors and technicians in exam rooms and treatment areas.
• Perform basic diagnostic tests such as fecal exams and blood draws as directed.

Surgical and Anesthesia Assistance

• Assist in pre-surgical preparation, including anesthesia monitoring.
• Perform post-operative care and patient recovery monitoring.
• Clean, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments and equipment.

Laboratory and Radiology

• Collect and prepare laboratory samples for in-house testing or external submission.
• Assist in taking radiographs and ensure proper maintenance of radiology equipment.

Hospital Maintenance and Housekeeping

• Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the hospital.
• Follow infection control protocols and ensure proper handling of biohazardous materials.
• Assist in restocking medical supplies and ensuring availability of necessary equipment.

Client and Administrative Support

• Schedule appointments and check in/out clients as needed.
• Provide basic client education on pet care, medications, and post-procedure instructions.
• Assist in handling phone inquiries and relaying messages to appropriate staff.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a veterinary assistant preferred but not required.
• Passion for animals and commitment to excellent patient care.
• Ability to handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn veterinary software.
• Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks efficiently.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Stand for long periods and move quickly as needed.
• Perform repetitive hand and arm movements, including handling small medical instruments.
